Knitting Olympics progress!

Yipee, I have a sock.......an imperfect sock but a sock nonetheless. It's taken over a week though and I still have it's match to make, before the end of the Olympics. It's tricky starting to work with 4 dpn's which no doubt led to the slow progress but you soon get into the swing of things. Here's the work in progress.............I had turned the heel at this stage which is not as difficult as it sounds. The errors occurred a little later on in the socks progression. Aided no doubt by this. Now it's not my normal practice to mix knitting and beer, but last week was far from normal. I was out of the country on a family holiday so, understandibly (I think) I took to drink! Unfortunately, this also led to errors........some got frogged, others didn't. I removed the stitch markers after working the shaping on the gusset, (without reading ahead on the pattern) and when it then came to shaping the toe I had to make an estimated guess, which I didn't do very well. Ah well, I'll have a chance to do better, when I knit the second sock. Here's my first ever knitted sock!

Hey, I think the sock turned out just great! No one will see any little mistake you made, and however, the second one will be perfect!
Oh, the beer looks yummy, I'd love to taste a bit of it :)
Best wishes from Austria!

No progress so far. Started doing the figure 8 cast on method last night and abandoned it after about 30 mins of frustration.Am going to tackle it again tonight (without the figure 8) as I only started late last night and was too tired. My early night went out the window!I have too many patterns now and just confusing myself so am going to start again with a free pattern I got with some Lorna's Laces yarn and go top down. I wanted to do toe up which was why I was having so many prob's I think- I want to run, not walk!!

Well the pattern I used is a free one I got with some Lorna's Laces yarn too and I really didn't have any difficulty with it. Mmmmm, I'm beginning to understand now why you have been having problems getting started - I've never even heard of figure 8 cast on - some help I would have been!!

well I think part of the problem is that, and part of the problem is that the smallest pair of dpn's I have is 2.75 and I'm too lazy to go into town to get some more, and my bf has confiscated (?spelling) my credit card (which is prob 4 for the best!)and my tension is off.I'll let you know tomorrow how I get on with the Lorna's Laces pattern, I'm not going to use the LL yarn as I don't want to waste it on my first botchy pair!
The figure 8 cast on was mentioned in a few patterns and had step by step instructions in one of them, but was so fiddly it was just too much for my tired brain at the time!I was probably doing it all wrong.
