I've just had a great weekend in Welly. On Saturday I went with JM (a friend who's into sewing more than knitting but was willing to drive me
here) to a
Knit World organised
Knitters Weekend. I was most interested in seeing what yarns would be on offer and the size and scale of the event was a little disappointing - it was no
Knitting and Stitching Show.

There was only a handful of yarn sellers other than Knit World and even at that Knit World didn't have a lot of yarn on sale preferring to push their knitting books and patterns. They had a number of tea cosies on display - entrants in a competition they had organised.

They also were running a fastest knitter and crocheter competition.

This lady was the winner of the fastest knitter comp. with 204 stitches knit in 3 mins. Her "tucking the needle under the arm" style along with the continental method of knitting meant she left the other entrants for dead. I didn't enter the competition and I'm no quick knitter but I did mean to try out a 3 minute time trial over the weekend to see how I would fare.

While I was there I got to fondle this gorgeous shawl.

I decided there and then that I was going to knit this
lace shawl (it's N1090). The
yarn felt so lovely - it's a wool/silk blend. Unfortunately they didn't have the yarn on sale at the show though so I'll have to pick it up in my local Knit World but I have bought the pattern which is a start. When I got back home I read on
Meg's blog about the
Tour de France Knitalong and realised that I already have the perfect project for this. All I have to decide now is the colour for the shawl and the colour of the jersey I'm going to compete for!
Sunday was a great day too - as I knew it would be. C had organised a trip here (he's knows me so well!!!) followed by bubbles here and later dinner here - what a treat, it was our 2nd wedding Anniversary yesterday.
P.S. I recall writing on the blog before heading off on our big trip in May that I would photograph my FO's in the various places we travelled to. Well, I did try, with limited success it has to be said but they're coming up next.

Happy anniversary!
Thought I'd stop by as I nick wifi from the airport hotel! I know a lady who knits just like that fastest winner. One needle under the arm and continental style and she just flies! Wish I could do the same, but am just not coordinated enough! Sigh....
Happy Anniversary!
The shawl is just lovely, and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished projects.
